Dimos Avdeliodis Honored at the 14th Athens International Digital Film Festival (AIDFF) December 4–10, 2025

dimos avdeliodisThe Athens International Digital Film Festival (AIDFF), remaining faithful to its mission of promoting art and humanism through cinema, continues this year its thematic and human-centered tributes, showcasing creators who have left a profound mark on Greek and international cultural life. As part of the 14th Athens International Digital Film Festival, distinguished filmmaker Dimos Avdeliodis will be honored for his lifetime achievements and invaluable contribution to Greek cinema.

The award ceremony and the screening of his multi-awarded film “The Tree We Hurt” (1986) will take place on Wednesday, December STUDIO ΤΟ ΔΕΝΤΡΟ ΠΟΥ ΠΛΗΓΩΝΑΜΕ 2025 social 10, as part of the festival events at Studio New Star Art Cinema. The film will be presented in a newly edited Director’s Cut version, with a running time of 65 minutes.

Dimos Avdeliodis was born in Chios in 1952. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens, and the Athens Drama School. He taught Film Studies at the Department of Communication and Media Studies, Panteion University (1993–1998), and served as Artistic Director of the North Aegean Regional Theater (DIPETHE) from 1997–2000 and from 2004 to the present day.

His work is distinguished by poetic sensitivity, visual power, and a deeply human perspective. Among his most significant films are:

  • Unfair Competition (1982) – Short film, awarded at the Drama Short Film Festival
  • The Tree We Hurt (1986) – First Prize, Berlin Film Festival 1987; participation in Cannes (Semaine de la Critique); Golden & Silver Elephant, New Delhi Film Festival
  • The Victory of Samothrace (1990)
  • The Spring Gathering of the Rural Guards (1999) – Multi-awarded at the Berlin Film Festival, Freistadt, and the Thessaloniki Film Festival

In parallel, he has directed numerous theatrical productions of exceptional artistic value, including “Figures from the Works of Vizyinos”, “A Performance of Three Greek Fairy Tales”, “A Little Bit of Everything”, “Song of Songs”, “The Woman of Zakynthos”, and “The Trial of Socrates: A Reenactment.”
