In 2026, Christos N. Karakasis marks 30 years of uninterrupted creative work in cinema, theatre, writing and cultural life in Greece.A journey that, as he defines it through his public artistic career, began in 1996, with his first participation in the competition programme of the Munich Film Festival, and continues to this day through filmmaking, production, theatre, writing and the development of cultural initiatives.Three decades filled with films, theatre productions, books, written works, cultural projects, festivals, collaborations and countless hours of creative work have shaped a career with one constant at its core: the need to create and to communicate through art.
For Karakasis, cinema has always been a way of looking at the world and searching for what lies beneath the surface of an image. Theatre has offered a space for encountering the human being through live presence and the immediacy of the moment, while writing has provided another form of expression for what cannot always be conveyed through images.
KOUINTA – A Space for Creation and Culture
An important chapter in this three-decade journey has been KOUINTA, through which activities have developed in film and theatre production, publishing and cultural initiatives.
Over the years, KOUINTA has served as a space where artists, works and ideas could meet, supporting creative projects and fostering opportunities for collaboration and cultural exchange.
From this ongoing journey emerged the Athens International Digital Film Festival – AIDFF, an institution dedicated to presenting contemporary films, supporting emerging and established filmmakers, and creating an open dialogue around the present and future of cinema.
For Christos N. Karakasis, a film festival is about much more than screenings.
It is about people, encounters, ideas and collaborations — the relationships and creative exchanges that can continue long after a festival has come to an end.
