The Athens International Digital Film Festival (AIDFF) returns for its 15th edition, taking place from 3 to 9 December 2026 in Athens, Greece, continuing its long-standing commitment to independent cinema, contemporary film language and new forms of audiovisual expression. Since its foundation in 2011, AIDFF has established itself as an international meeting point for filmmakers, artists, screenwriters and audiovisual professionals, presenting works that explore new approaches to filmmaking and expand the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. The 15th edition places particular emphasis on contemporary cinema, the dialogue between art and technology, new narrative forms, and the connection between Greek and international film creation.
Open Call for Filmmakers from Around the World
AIDFF invites filmmakers, screenwriters, producers and artists from Greece and around the world to submit their work for consideration for the 15th edition.
The Festival welcomes fiction films, documentaries, animation, experimental and hybrid works, as well as films that explore innovative approaches to cinematic storytelling and audiovisual expression.
Alongside its film programme, the Festival expands its activities through dedicated sections focusing on screenwriting, cinematic works in development, special presentations and education.
Screenplay Section
A special place in the 15th edition is dedicated to the Screenplay Section, offering screenwriters the opportunity to present their work and bring new cinematic stories to the attention of an international audience.
AIDFF considers the screenplay not simply as a blueprint for a future film, but also as an independent form of cinematic writing, through which characters, ideas, images and narrative possibilities are developed.
The section is open to creators who are developing a feature film, short film or other cinematic project, as well as writers wishing to present a completed screenplay.
Panorama – Science, Environment and Ecology
Panorama is a special thematic section of the Festival dedicated to the relationship between cinema, science, ecology and the environment.
Through films and audiovisual works that explore scientific subjects, climate change, environmental protection, biodiversity and the relationship between human beings and nature, Panorama creates a meeting point between scientific knowledge, environmental awareness and cinematic expression.
The section aims to highlight works that use the language of cinema as a means of research, communication and reflection on important issues concerning the future of our planet and human society.
Panorama welcomes films that approach scientific and ecological subjects through documentary, experimental, artistic and innovative forms, encouraging dialogue between filmmakers, scientists, researchers and audiences.
Masterclasses – Knowledge, Experience and Dialogue
The 15th edition will also feature Masterclasses and special educational activities, with the participation of filmmakers and professionals from the wider audiovisual field.
The Masterclasses aim to create a direct exchange between experienced professionals and the new generation of filmmakers through presentations, discussions and conversations focusing on directing, screenwriting, film production, cinematography, film technology and contemporary audiovisual practices.
In this way, AIDFF aims to function not only as a festival for film screenings, but also as a space for education, exchange of ideas, professional dialogue and the development of new cinematic projects.
Submission Deadline: 1 October 2026
Filmmakers and screenwriters wishing to participate in the 15th edition of AIDFF must complete their submissions by 1 October 2026.
Following the selection process, the selected works will become part of the official programme of the Festival and will be presented in Athens from 3 to 9 December 2026.
The Athens International Digital Film Festival continues to support independent filmmaking and to seek out cinematic voices that dare to experiment, challenge conventions and propose new ways of seeing and narrating the world.
