Here are some of the most exciting recent developments:
• IN/SITU is EXPO’s dynamic opportunity for exhibiting galleries to showcase large-scale installations, site-specific and performative works by leading international artists, organized by writer and independent curator Michael Ned Holte. The initial list of artists announced for IN/SITU includes Robert Barry, Fiona Connor, Theaster Gates, Tony Feher, Roy McMakin, Jaume Plensa, Sarah Rara, Steve Roden, Jennifer West, and several sited performances are also in development.
• EXPO /Dialogues offers scheduled discussions, providing provocative artistic discourse along with more intimate conversations with leading artists, architects, curators, designers, and arts professionals on the current issues that engage them. Some of the notables scheduled to appear are noted art critic Jerry Saltz; artists Sterling Ruby, Alec Soth, Eve Sussman and Deborah Doering; art adviser Todd Levin; curators, Michael Darling, Lisa Dorin, and Dominic Molon,
• We also will have a series of exciting large-scale presentations. For example
Gordon Matta Clark’s legendary Garbage Wall (1970) will be recreated using trash from the Chicago River.
Dawoud Bey is curating a show of five acclaimed artists who, in turn, will choose a piece by another artist that works in dialogue with their own.
A special Tony Tasset exhibition will be created on-site.
There will be an Allen Ruppersberg satellite exhibition at the fair, happening in conjunction with the artist’s show opening the same weekend at the Art Institute of Chicago.
• The food at EXPO CHICAGO will be worth the trip in and of itself. World renowned Chicago Chef Michael Kornick (of MK) will lean an eclectic blend of chefs including Graham Elliot (Graham Elliot, g.e.b., and Grahamwich), Ryan Poli (Tavernita) with Patricio Sandoval (Mercadito) and Randy Zweiban (Province) to curate the inaugural Chefs’ Café.
