BoxWhatBox “I Wonder”

Format:
Each day begins with physical training in neutralisation and demechanisation, designed to provide the actor with control over their creative state. These principles are communicated through the playing of games and exercises using sticks, balls, and the human body. The second phase each day involves training in rhythm principles: individual, ensemble, and scenic responsibility and creativity are the focuses of rhythm training. Actors vocalise and use their bodies as percussive instruments. The third phase of each day involves Non-linear Text and Image Creation. New exercises and games are created for the players, who perform targeted improvisation within a series of frames (scenes) outlined within a general theme. The theme for BWB Athens 2008 is “I Wonder”—the role and power of imagination. The final phase of the workshop is to collect the performance material generated by games, exercises and targeted improvisation into a model presentation for invited spectators. At the end of the presentation players are invited to ask and answer questions from spectators, other players, or the animateur. BoxWhatBox is a practical training system designed to augment the physical and mental plasticity of the actor, to help the actor see and perform reality in alternative ways.
