Features & Documentaries Late Deadline - July 21, 2006 In the Spotlight this week is the 20th annual AFI FEST 2006, presented by Audi. The longest running film festival in Los Angeles and one of the most innovative and influential in North America, AFI's attendance at the 2005 event topped 60,000. While AFI FEST will celebrate its 20th birthday with recovered film clips, video footage, photographs, memorabilia, news articles and personal recollections - helping to capture and recreate the priceless moments that make AFI FEST so special - there is a broader mission at play: To salute all film festivals for their efforts in providing filmmakers and audiences the best possible environment for the sacred, communal activity of going to the movies.
Spanning 10 days in November, AFI FEST and the American Film Market (AFM) have created the first concurrent festival/market event in North America. The largest motion picture trade event in the world, AFM is a marketplace where over $500 million in production and distribution deals are conducted and closed annually, by more than 7,000 entertainment professionals and executives from over 70 countries. Last year saw the number of AFM sales reps registered for AFI PRO PASSES more than double.
Additionally, AFI has created innovative opportunities for its filmmakers with the KODAK CONNECT program, now in its sixth year, and the Rooftop Village, new in 2005.
AFI presents the most cutting-edge, undiscovered talent in the film world, along with premieres from some of Hollywood's most respected directors. Last year's star-studded premieres included WALK THE LINE, THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA and CASANOVA - along with a Tribute to Johnny Depp accompanying the World Premiere of THE LIBERTINE.
AFI is world-class, LA powerhouse, and a career-making opportunity. Apply today, or set a Watch List reminder, but do not miss it.
For new filmmakers, Kodak CONNECT offers the opportunity to connect with more than 100 representatives from all corners of the film community within an intimate and intensive framework of one-on-ones, breakfasts, lunches, roundtables, and other opportunities to advance your career. In 2005, Kodak CONNECT attracted more than 100 high-profile representatives from Hollywood's distribution, financing, development, music, marketing and publicity communities. Last year, AFI also introduced the Rooftop Village - an ambitious interconnected suite of hospitality pavilions for patrons on the rooftop of the ArcLight parking garage
